SHC of Sunrise Manor residents participate in the Color Run

Many people could not believe that Sunrise Manor’s elders signed up to do the Color Run – 5K in Radcliff.  We originally had 9 elders wanting to participate, but with out of town families visiting and illness we had 3 residents that were able to participate.  I got questioned a lot on how I talked them in to it.  Truth is I didn’t have to talk any of them into it. When I told them about the race they all wanted to do it, no questions asked! Why? This is because our elders at Sunrise Manor have no limitations.  Yes, they may have physical limitations, but that doesn’t stop them from living life to the fullest.

So that’s exactly what we did on Saturday, Oct. 25th!  I asked the elders if they had ever done anything crazy like this when they were in their 20’s, 30’s or 40’s, Joyce Williams replied “No, I had to wait until I was 82 years old to do something crazy like this!”  Pamela Batts agreed that this was the craziest thing she had ever done, as well.  Probably the most excited to participate was Jenny Henderson, who smiled, laughed and shook her leg in dance during the pre and post-race festivities. She was all smiles and laughs as she was being pushed through the color stations.

We do a lot of amazing and fun things at Sunrise Manor, but this event is up there as one of my most favorites to witness.  It was beautiful to see the elders let go, laugh, and do CRAZY!
